From this workshop you will gain tools and ideas for group cohesion, meeting efficiency, role selections, and organizational evolution. A Taste of Morocco
Rich in both history and flavour, Moroccan
cuisine is one of the most exotic in the world. The sophisticated recipes and Moroccan palate arose as a result of this mysterious country
playing host to settlers from India, China, Spain, Persia and France. This will be the first in a series of classes we will be offering as an introduction to this mouth-watering cuisine. Tonight we will be focusing on the beginning of the meal with a traditional Harira Soup, Moroccan style stuffed breads and a Roasted Vegetable Salad.
We will also be making up a batch of Harissa (hot sauce used in or to accompany many Moroccan dishes) to take home with you so don’t forget to bring a small container with you.

New Mexico renegade architect Michael Reynolds and his green disciples did and have been building self sufficient, off-the-grid communities where design and function converge in eco-harmony.

However these experimental structures that defy state sandards create conflict between Reynols and the authorties, who are backed by big business. Frustrated by antiquated legislation, Reynolds lobbies for the right to create a sustainable living test site.

The Nelson Waldorf School's 25th Anniversary Spring Concert is coming up at the Capitol Theatre on Thursday, March 13th at 7:00 PM. The evening will feature music, movement art, and alumni appearances. The Concert is by donation, and all are welcome.

This workshop is designed to bring you more awareness to your body, by using hatha yoga, and dance exercises to electronica music. The premise is that by matching our body’s movement to music gives us feedback on of how we respond to an outside stimulus, and will help in shaping our reaction time.

Explore colour and how to use it effectively in drawing, painting, craft and intereior design. This course will demystify and mystify the phenomenom of light and colour. You will learn about the colour wheel, its organizing principles, colour schemes and colour harmony. The process is explored and integrated through a series of small illuminated drawings with Prismacolor pencils on black paper.

On Saturday, March 15, 2008, Nelson Peace Coalition will hold a Peace Cafe and Teach-In on Canada’s Mission in Afghanistan. Join us in the growing global movement against war and occupation, at Nelson United Church, 2-5 pm, for an inspiring, informative afternoon of activism. In addition to good food and local entertainment, there will be an outstanding program of speakers, to include MP Alex Atamanenko and Francisco Juarez (former Canadian Army Lieutenant who refused deployment to Afghanistan), and selections from “Winter Soldier: Iraq & Afghanistan,” featuring testimony from U.S. veterans who served in those occupations, giving an accurate account of what is really happening day in and day out, on the ground. Donations accepted.

Beware the Ides of March
Hail Caesar: Rome wasn’t built in a day and Caesar is still dead, but that doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy the glory of Rome. On March 15th 44 BC Marcus Brutus ended the life of Julius Caesar and in order to celebrate or mourn the treachery and debauchery, (whichever you please), Olindo Chiocca will Marcus the occasion with a number of traditional Roman dishes and family recipes from Rome that reflect the variety and simplicity of Roman Cooking. Togas are optional. Wine pairing will be available with this menu. Chef - Olindo, whose parents hail from the surrounding region of Rome, is the author of Dinner wit da Dons, the world’s first Cookbook Noir.

Spend the day in a fully equipped Metal Studio, learning forging basics and creating your own hooks. This is a great introduction to blacksmithing/forging. Some materials included. Wear safety glasses, cotton clothing, ear plugs, gloves, and leather boots.

On Wednesday, March 19th, 7pm at the Nelson Public Library, Mr. Stephen Garvey, CEO of the Foundation for Democratic Political Advancement, will present on the state of western democracy, and the formation of a West Kootenay Evaluation Committee (for the upcoming Federal Election). Through the Green Lens Film Course

Filmmaker Amy Bohigian and Environmental Educator Emily Nilsen will facilitate a week of wilderness excursions for youth ages 13-18 using digital film to capture the fragility and splendour of our mountain environment.

Youth will gain valuable environmental awareness about our region as they work together as a team to produce a short digital film on an environmental topic of their choice. Offered in partnership with the BC Land Conservancy.
