The Nelson Peace Coalition, a member of the Canadian Peace Alliance--the country's largest umbrella peace organization--invites the public to a Candidates Forum on Ending the War in Afghanistan. The event takes place on Tuesday evening, October 7 at 7:00 pm at the Nelson United Church. We are optimistic that all four candidates running for Parliament will be in attendance. Audience members will have the opportunity to pose questions about war, peace, and Canada's role in the world. The moderator is Mike Stolte of the Centre for Innovative and Entrepreneurial Leadership. This event is free and open to the public. The Canadian Solar Industries Association (CanSIA) Solar Domestic Hot Water (SDHW) System Installer Workshop will take place Thursday October 16th, 2008. The Dances of Universal Peace are a moving meditation practice involving simple movements and music shared in a circle. A dance leader, supported by musicians, teaches participants a chant and movements. Soon, the circle is singing and moving together, deepening into the meditation. The dances offer a joyous and multi-cultural way to touch the spiritual essence within, share heartfelt connection with others and experience deep inner peace.

No experience or partner is required – the dances are easy to learn and are taught to the whole group each time. Bring non-marking indoor shoes and a water bottle. By donation.

The chant group of Studio Cantilena will sing Gregorian chants and English plainsong to texts from ancient Wisdom Literature.

The Rossland Council for Arts and Culture Presents The Joe Hill Coffee House Monthly Series hosted by Michael Gifford.

Slated for the third Sunday of every month, this all ages event welcomes performing artists of all calibers and style to share in a coffee house setting their art. All types of performing talents (or non-talents) are welcome, including music, drama, dance and spoken word (poetry, story-telling, comedy.)A place to share your work with a friendly and captive audience.

Entry is $3 and will help pay performers who travel from the distant corners of the West Kootenays. Concession run by the the Rossland High School drama club.
