Through its ongoing series, “The Future of Prison Farms”, Kootenay Co-op Radio’s Deconstructing Dinner has focused considerable attention since early 2009 on Canada’s over one-hundred year-old prison farm program. The farms offer rehabilitative and job training skills to inmates at minimum security institutions. The farms further exemplify the principles of food security. With all six of Canada’s prison farms on the chopping block and now in the process of being dismantled, Deconstructing Dinner is hosting a Nelson engagement with Kingston, Ontario’s Andrew McCann of the Save Our Prison Farms Campaign and MP Alex Atamanenko who has become a vocal opponent of the Conservative-led closures.
