PUBLIC INVITED TO HEAR CANDIDATES’ POSITIONS ON WAR
Nelson Peace Coalition hosts candidates’ forum Oct 7

WHO:        Nelson Peace Coalition

WHAT:    Candidates’ Forum on Ending the War in Afghanistan

WHERE:    Nelson United Church, 602 Silica Street, Lower level

WHEN:    Tuesday, October 7, 2008 from 7:00 – 9:00 PM

DETAILS:    (Nelson, BC, September 24, 2008)  The Nelson Peace Coalition, a member of the Canadian Peace Alliance, the country’s largest umbrella peace organization, is hosting a Candidates’ Forum on Ending the War in Afghanistan.  This free public event takes place on Tuesday evening, October 7 at Nelson United Church from 7:00 – 9:00 PM.

This year and prior to the call of the federal election, the Canadian Peace Alliance scheduled pan-Canadian events for October 18th, with the objective of ending the war in Afghanistan and bringing Canadian troops home. Given that election day falls before October18th, the Nelson Peace Coalition would like to provide MP candidates full opportunity to outline their views on this important issue, prior to the election.  The following candidates have confirmed their participation at the forum:

•    Ms. Brenda Jagpal of the Liberal Party
•    Mr. Andy Morel of the Green Party
•    Mr. Alex Aatamaneko of the NDP

Mr. Bob Zandee  of the Conservative Party has indicated his willingness to attend as well if a potential scheduling conflict can be resolved.

Organized as a panel, the candidates will be asked questions provided by the Nelson Peace Coalition, have an opportunity to respond and offer concluding comments. In the second segment of the evening members of the audience will be invited to ask questions as well on the topics of war and peace.

This event is free and open to the public.  Donations to support the work of the Nelson Peace Coalition will be gratefully accepted.
