Venus turns retrograde this week (May 15 - June 27). Generally, when Venus is retrograde it is considered best not to make big purchases. At least, it may simply be best to choose a very auspicious date and time if you do feel moved and inspired to invest. Knowing when is the best time is an ancient technique and is called “Electional Astrology”. Making bad choices is common and it is partially due to excess will at the expense of considering larger rhythms and cycles of time. Many contracts, leases, business start-ups, marriages, loans and other such activities that imply long-term investments and usually larger layouts go awry every day. At least a significant portion of those probably would not if people stopped assuming that their will is stronger than the natural and rhythmic timing. It is due to this erroneous notion that we are superior to and must conquer nature. Now look at our world. Sure, science and technology have produced ‘flowers’ but they have also bought are leading us to destruction and despair due to wrong thinking that has produced unsustainable attitudes and actions. Venus retrograde offers us an opportunity to reconsider our values and priorities and to think carefully before we reactively engage backed by short-term and excessively willful attitudes

May 5^th is Cinco de Mayo. This annual celebration highlights Mexican heritage and pride. Yet, it has gained cross cultural focus, especially in North America. The modern Mexican’s and other nations in the Central American region like Guatemala, Belize, Honduras and others all share a common ancestry with Mayan culture. In turn Mayan culture shares its roots with the Toltec, Olmec, Aztec, Zapotec and Teotihuacanos and perhaps other root cultures as well. The Spanish influence is about 4 centuries old and well established. Woven into this focus is the Cosmology and Astrology of these root cultures. Generally, these are collectively referred to as “Mayan”, though it is not as straightforward as that. With the advent of the 12-21-2012 prophesies continuing to entice imaginations and perpetuate some anxiety due to some of the dire cataclysmic tone of these prophesies, it presents added reason to bring attention to this celebration. Interestingly, Cinco de Mayo coincides with the Full Moon in Scorpio this year! This is just one of many apt celestial events occurring in 2012. The New Moon in Gemini on May 20 is another. It coincides with a Solar Eclipse at the Zenith conjunct the Pleiades. This only occurs once every 360 years! 2012 is not over yet!

Aries (Mar 21 – Apr 20)

As though cruising through the city at an off peak hour, you have a chance to observe the many people and places there are to see. Still, your focus must remain sharp. The New Moon in Taurus occurs on April 21^st.  This generally has a stabilizing influence and activates happier moods and attitudes. With Jupiter in Taurus as well there is additional reason to believe this will be the case this year as well. Taurus is linked to gardening, construction, investments of all kinds, establishing foundations, concentrating upon personal talents and acquiring possessions that are both beautiful and enduring. April 22^nd is Earth Day. This now international event began in 1970. Some Astrologers believe that Taurus is the sign that is ruled by the planet Earth. This may be true but it is more likely simply confused with the fact that Taurus is an Earth Sign. In Astrology, the Earth is the planet that sits in the middle of the Mandala chart wheel because from the stand point of our perceptual and experiential reality, the Earth is in fact at the center of the universe. Of course we know the Sun is actually at the center of the Solar System, but we have never and never will experience the universe from its center for all obvious reasons. So, it may be said that both the Earth is and the Sun is at the center – yes both. Just like light can be both a particle and a wave, depending upon the perspective of the observer. It may be that by taking the earth out of the center of the universe we have developed the erroneous and dangerous attitude that it is simply ‘just another planet’. Take this time to pay tribute the element and the planet that we call Earth.

As the planet turns….sounds like a soap opera! Implied is the usual host of dramas where people interact according to circumstance, need, desire, opportunity and ambition and where vice and guile, innocence and naivety and all the good in between weave the daily rhythms and intrigues we call life. This briefly characterizes the perennial story everywhere despite language, culture, race, religion, creed or technological prowess. Yet the planet does not just turn it actually spins on its axis and orbits around the Sun. Further, this axial rotation has a slight wobble in its spin which produces a phenomenon called Precession of the Equinoxes. In turn, this causes the Zodiac to appear to retrograde at a rate of about 1 degree every 72 years completing a 360 degree cycle in almost 26, 000 years. From Precession we get the Age of Pisces and Aquarius…. So, only once in about 26, 000 years does the Sun, from the perspective of Earth conjunct the Galactic Center and it is happening right now! Actually the process requires about 36 years to complete and we have been in it since about 1980, meaning there are a few years yet to go. Enter Mayan Cosmology which asserts that this event coincides with a great evolutionary juncture and potentially great cataclysms. The year cycle from spring 2012 through to that of 2013 is said to be when this will occur - stay tuned!

Aries (Mar 21 – Apr 20)

You may be just a little slower off the mark so far this month, but the pace will accelerate this week. Your focus will sharpen noticeably and by next week you will be on a real roll. Last week’s federal budget here in Canada was signed and enacted while both Mercury and Mars were retrograde. This indicates that it will be fraught with problems and will probably never settle well. That it was officially ratified after the New Moon in Aries cycle, which included Uranus in its scope, makes sense in terms of it activating a revolutionary movement. Many people are upset and virtually dumbfounded at the decisions of the leading players of our ‘elected representatives’ at both federal and provincial levels. Royal decrees would be better descriptions of the social policies being pushed through. Referring to people who get elected, or who assume positions of authority by default, as ‘our leaders’ may be part of the problem. Of course, behind the realities of national interests are all the forces of multi-national interests. That the latter do work with and through national policy but are in fact not strictly bound by national interests and concerns is a likely reflection of the global state of affairs.

All being well you have everything in place in preparation to launch initiatives that have been brewing for some months. Making improvements in your relationships is in focus. That this includes the quality of connection you have with yourself is part of the plot. You are in the mood for social and cultural stimulation and perhaps some adventure too. With some returns coming in on past investments, deciphering what is your next best direction is important.

Scorpio (Oct 22 – Nov 21)

Activating key changes in your daily rhythm and routine is important now. Knowing how much you can and are willing to give verses managing and reserving enough energy for other priorities is on your mind. Creating a strategy that works for everyone, including you is the main goal. Within reason you can ‘have it all’, but you have to ask and negotiate terms.

Sagittarius (Nov 21 – Dec 21)

A creative cycle has begun for you and it spells change. Yet feeling confident about the prospects may not be so easy. Part of the answer now lies in reaching out to communicate and network. ‘A person is 5 people away from everyone’ is a saying worth considering. Who owes you a favour? Things are moving and shaking on the home front, and in you, and both are creating waves on relationship fronts. These may be producing opportunities but you may have to get extra imaginative and give to the situation double time to get the results you want. You may be standing on top yet the wind is blowing cold and it is time touch base and warm-up somehow.

New perceptions are stirring in your mind. These are leading you to review your priorities with a reality check in mind. Yet, what is realistic may not be so straightforward. Sometimes common sense can get in the way of good sense. What that is depends on your deeper needs. There is more to true security than material considerations and a riddle you must solve.

Pisces (Feb 19 – Mar 20)

An ambitious streak has been activated. This could produce a change of fortunes or at least a desire for more. Of course, discipline must usually accompany ambition. Creating more beauty and comfort in your home is featured. Minor antagonisms meanwhile on relationships fronts may be a source of upset. Balancing this mix of energies will require flexibility and patience.

As the first Moon Cycle of the season achieves its 1st Quarter thus revealing a lovely half moon, the changes in the weather are noticeable. The Full Moon on April 6^th is the first since the Equinox and so signals the celebration of Easter. Linked to the resurrection of Christ, it is apt that it coincides with this time of the year and the Moon fully reflecting the light of the Sun. Mercury turning Direct after a few weeks (March 12 - April 4) of Retrograde motion, during which time it shifted from Aries back to Pisces (on March 24^th), where it produces bigger challenges yet in communications, is another reason to rejoice the new season. Mars too will turn Direct again on April 12 and by the 17^th Mercury will regain its full composure when it re-enters Aries. Thus, the momentum will build towards Earth Day on Sunday April 22. It has emerged as an international celebration and which, though unofficially, celebrates the same ‘birthday’ as the World Wide Web when back in 1993 on April 22, Mosaic Version 1.0 was launched thus making the web public domain! Aries (Mar 21 – Apr 20)

Though spring is here and as much as you want to get on a roll, you may feel as though something is slowing you down. Mercury retrograde is the likely factor. It will remain there until April 4^th so if you feel the need to get going prepare to go against a current. Otherwise coast but take initiatives like preparing and cleaning before you launch into full action.

Taurus (Apr 20 – May 21)

What dreams may come? A lot of activity behind the scenes or at least in your thoughts is getting you excited. Deciphering which are realistic and which are fantasies is probably wise. Mercury is playing mind tricks on a lot of people these days. But dreaming and fantasizing do have their place too. Often out of them arise great visions, inventions and plans….

Gemini (May 21 – Jun 21)

The last New Moon on March 22 is activating everyone. It stands to produce some sudden changes in you and among friends. New realizations are being sparked and perhaps not all of them are welcome. They are pushing you to make some important changes on the home front. Yet there are some blessings present as well so proceed with faith.

Cancer (Jun 21 – Jul 22)

Some big and major shifts have been seeded and they are quite noticeable to others. These require that you exercise self-control yet you may reactively seek to control others. It is likely you have been facing many fears these past 2-3 years and now you must again. Mercury’s influence may be leaving you feeling a little lost. Be patient now, you will know what to do more next week.

Leo (Jul 22 – Aug 23)

A turning within to create confidence without is the call now. Clean, clear, organize, settle accounts, close old files…. Things may be slower than usual these days, which may be a good thing unless it is affecting your cash flow. This is not the best time for big ambitions. Enjoy the pace for now; you will be ready for bigger action in a couple of weeks.

Virgo (Aug 23 – Sep 22)

You are changing. You can feel and perhaps see it. Ideally, you are achieving new levels of self-awareness. Yet you may sense a lingering mist on relationship fronts. Handled well, this could produce some deep heart healings. ‘Accept what is’: wisdom that might apply best. Aim for mutual understanding and let go of any controlling tendencies.

Libra (Sep 22 – Oct 22)

Some real changes are being activated on relationship fronts, again. Confronting subconscious fear, anger and frustration are possible issues. These may be projected upon your closest relationships. The key is to forgive yourself for how you and/or they feel. Sweep away all “shoulds” and accept and be grateful for what is. If you can and do, success will be yours!

Scorpio (Oct 22 – Nov 21)

Changes in you are affecting your lifestyle and vice versa. If the way is easy now it is because you are flowing and are not resisting and controlling. Meanwhile, opportunity is knocking. This may come in the way of allies or perhaps bigger stakes yet. These probably deserve your utmost attention. Yet avoid long-term commitments for now.

Activation in your game plan is pushing you to be resourceful. Drawing on old techniques and seeking new training may be required to adjust. It seems a lot of people are experiencing major shifts and activations close to home, including you. You would like to feel freer somehow. Your thoughts are roaming in all directions seeking answers. Some thoughts, perceptions and self-concepts are being activated. Yet, they may be coming up against some deeply rooted values and priorities. While money and security are important, you are wise to answer a higher calling. With healthy intentions, you will probably achieve it all anyway. Decipher what constitutes true alignment with your deeper destiny.

Pisces (Feb 19 – Mar 20)

Your ambitions are being activated. Yet, you may be in a vulnerable period, so be careful who you share your plans and goals with. Above all, clarify what these are to your self and take initiative to at least plant the seed(s). You likely have a lot to consider so focus and avoid scattering your energies. Practical leads initiated now will likely prove successful.

The first New Moon of Spring occurs on March 23 and hosts a close alignment with the Sun, Moon, Mercury Retrograde and Uranus all in Aries. Generally this will spark ambitions, controversy, critical and revolutionary attitudes. When the actual Equinox occurred this year (March 19) the Moon was waning and in Pisces and this will have that effect on the entire season. Implied is an emerging idealism balanced by an urge to clear the way in preparation for the new. A rebellious mood will provoke the emergence of new leaders and stir the claims and assertions of activists. Yet the general consensus will be to assume a patient, if nervous, and even philosophical perspective. Like an eerie stillness before a storm, the tone will be rather quiet initially, yet the air will grow thicker and the winds will begin to blow, figuratively and perhaps literally speaking, as solstice approaches. If any faction is to strike to any really remarkable extent it is most likely that it will by Mother Nature herself. The Solar Eclipse New Moon cycle which begins in late May will prove especially significant in this regard. Stay tuned, 2012 will deliver its first big payload in late spring and especially by early summer.

Aries (Mar 21 – Apr 20)

The New Moon in your sign will activate your focus. You will feel the desire to take some key initiatives and perhaps make a few important investments. The biggest challenge stands to know what these are. Preparing the ground for future prospects is likely, yet the bulk of your focus will be upon planning and visualizing.

Something new is being activated in your relationships. While significant others are likely involved, the emphasis is upon the relationship you have with your own self and sense of individuality. This is prompting you to dig beneath the surface. The good news is that there is gold in there. The tricky part is that these riches are linked to others.

Changes in your lifestyle will be sparked by this New Moon. Some of these may come about as if suddenly. You may still not feel as though you are standing on solid ground and may not for a while yet, so remain patient and flexible. Positively, definite signs of improvement and increase in your relationships give reason to be grateful.

The time has come to take some creative leads. Many ideas are running through your mind, but taking action is another issue. The time is right to at least take some preliminary measures. Pisces (Feb 19 – Mar 20)

This New Moon will spark you into action. It may feel like you have been climbing a slippery slope lately. A general distrust or lack faith in others or concerns about their impressions about you may be holding you back. These are likely unfounded and a good way to find out is to be more direct in your communications. Get clear on what you want and act upon it now!

Celebrated author Gregg Braden says it well in his book, “The Divine Matrix”. Essentially, Braden asserts that we live in a conscious universe. The modern advances of physics have come to the same conclusions. One of the more interesting interpretations is called M Theory. The ‘M’ here stands for three key words: Magic, Mystery and Matrix. These are the best words that scientists pushing the limits of Quantum Physics use to describe what they are discovering. Among their more interesting discoveries is the realization that matter is 99.99% space. Now that is certainly a mystery. Our experience of reality certainly does not support these findings. So, the tables have been turned. The initial march of science challenged the authority of the church some 3 centuries ago on the basis of empirical proof. With this, all appeals of mysticism were brushed aside by heroic convictions of certainty and a deep determination to overthrow the dogmatic grip of church authority. Now, science itself has proven that the mystics were right or at least on to something others could only accept with blind faith. But, this discovery is still not so easily understood, accepted or desired. Thus, the stage is set for the next great revolution which requires us to digest and assimilate the mystical discoveries of science.

Aries (Mar 21 – Apr 20)

With spring right around the corner your engines are revving. Yet the actual gunshot will not come about until the new season actually begins. Still, your focus is sharp and you are ready to ride. Use this window to ensure all systems are ‘go’. When they are, you can relax into the moment and enjoy the sensations or your rumbling engines.

Yet the notion that Winter Solstice 2012 represents a significant turning point is shared by other cultures as well. Looking back, it is evident that our planet and our ancestors have undergone massive and sudden changes before. The evidence of this is present in geological studies and in the records of ancient cultures and unexplained monuments found the world over. The big question when it comes to predictions is if certain cycles linked to massive change are periodic or anomalous. Some pretty dire predictions have been made about this turning point. There are many references to unusual solar activity as the major instigator of these changes. These would be periodic. Yet, the planet has also been struck by anomalous meteor strikes. From another standpoint altogether, this turning point is prophesied to activate a higher level of consciousness for humanity. Many would agree that such activation sure sounds like something we genuinely need.

The urge to retreat vies with extra demands on your time and energy. Handling this complex pattern gracefully could prove challenging.
