Well here we are in the final stretch of both the Canadian and the United States federal and even municipal Elections. Voters will soon decide who will govern their respective countries. Amidst economic aftershocks of an unprecedented shake down of the banking institutions that is being felt all over the world, it is curious to ask what astrological factors are at play. Interestingly, the Canadian election will be decided during Mercury stationary retrograde! This means Mercury will appear to be at a standstill in its motion as it slows to a stop before resuming direct motion. Mercury rules perceptions and communication processes and this will prove to produce unexpected events leading to disappointments as the decision making process is confounded by quirks, mistakes, bloopers and generally unexpected events coloring the entire term before the next election! Some will say that is life, especially when it comes to politics but there will be true to a higher degree than usual. Many if not all platform policies will soon be forgotten or over ridden by other issues that arise. Again, such is tradition with most politicians and political groups once in power. In addition to Mercury retrograde until October 15th, Venus and Mars in Scorpio bring deep desires for power subject to covert and possibly sinister behaviour along with ruthless ambition. Not only is this present currently, it also will be active for the duration of the term. This is based on what is actually called “Electional Astrology” which is the study of the planetary picture present at the moment of official initiatives where important legal signatures serve as the ‘first breath’ of the city, company, country or special event in question. The overall picture has some saving graces such as Jupiter and Saturn in a trine aspect suggesting creative solutions, especially regarding economic and environmental issues. However, the process of achieving these and the general tone may prove distasteful, even shameful and, again, with Mercury retrograde, the process will not be obvious and could well occur as a consequence of or in the midst of scandalous behaviour and events. Aries (Mar 21 – Apr 20)

There exist very large and complex factors amidst more current social and economic swings and the forces at play on personal levels are themselves filled with seductive guile. Caution!

Taurus (Apr 20 – May 21)

You are eager to realize dreams now. It is important that you know the facts especially well now in your dealings. While you want others to share their feelings and plans, you may feel reluctant to share your own. Meanwhile, key players are pushing you to invest. You are wise to proceed cautiously, especially if you are put in a liable position of any kind. The cliché’: ‘A bird in hand is better than two in the bush’ applies now. Love, passion and security are major factors. Exercise critical analysis before you say yes.

Gemini (May 21 – Jun 21)

The stage is set for all the drama of a Hollywood film. This could prove exciting yet also overwhelming and uncertain. Opportunities are present, but tensions are rising on economic and political fronts…everywhere! It is important that you be willing to focus and work diligently now. Delays and frustrations earlier in the year have yielded somewhat, so focus to make your every move count. Enjoy the drama but make conscious efforts not to get lost in it.

Cancer (Jun 22 – Jul 22)

Changes close to home continue to shake your world. Larger social changes are at play as well and are pushing you to pay attention. How can you create a greater measure of security for you and your family, with effective short-term measures? Be willing to learn new skills. Hands on training or at least practical applications are much more important than theory, especially now. Generally, be willing to learn new skills and keep an open mind about your options.

Leo (Jul 23 – Aug 23)

Attending to an array of errands, communications, visits and short journeys should be keeping you busy now. Amidst it all, this is a good time to assess your life by reflecting upon the past and projecting possibilities for the future. Financial delays and frustrations stand to shift for the better soon; are you prepared? Brain storm for ideas and take note of your ideas. The time is not ripe to take big risks yet. Do your homework and secure your foundation to prepare.

Virgo (Aug 24 – Sep 22)

Taking inventory of what you have, want and need is now underway. You are eager to entertain and to explore new options. You are eager to take some new initiatives. This is a good time to review your options and do some follow–up and investigative work. Aim to increase your network as well as your technical skills. Be careful that your ambitions do not exceed the energy, time and money you are willing to actually invest as well. Concentrate and follow through once you have a clear sense of direction. Think about your long-term plans.

Libra (Sep 23 – Oct 22)

You are in the mood to forge ahead with all engines fired. Your ambitions are running high, maybe too high for your own good. Be aware of wanting more than you can reasonably, healthily and honestly have. Your confidences could be inflated as you attempt to feel secure. Some risky ventures may well earn returns but be careful on long-term commitments. Small purchases or short term goals are the way to go now. Prepare the ground for bigger goals.

Scorpio (Oct 23 – Nov 21)

Desires for power are apparent now. The problem may be choosing where to focus. Your ambitions may be leading you in too many directions creating conflicts of interest and contradictions. Can you safely say you know who you are and what is truly best for you?  Take some time out to reflect to differentiate between fantasies and genuine dreams. Both have their place and are best enjoyed when kept there. Timing is the other factor. Concentrate on fulfilling needs rather than get lost in wants.

Sagittarius (Nov 22 – Dec 21)

You may be wearing your individuality on your sleeve these days. Grand dreams and schemes continue to fill your mind. You may well feel the weight of responsibility as well as the limitations of your position. Somewhere between the two and with a very sober attitude and approach you may be able to get your way, but save the big whims for conversation pieces. This way you can enjoy them for what they are and not mix them with practical considerations.

Capricorn (Dec 22 – Jan 19)

You are determined to expand your position. Yet you know you have a lot to learn. Also, you are on the eve of some major changes. If you cooperate with these you could demonstrate some real leadership. However, resistance is futile so avoid trying to control people and situations and exercise self-control instead. Take note of who are your true friends. In the short term, be willing to approach others for assistance and to return favours.

Aquarius (Jan 20 – Feb 19)

Balancing the big picture with the small is especially important now. Your focus may not be as clear as it is usually. This will soon change. For now, be willing to take a philosophical approach on all matters of interest and perspective. Gather new tools and be open to new instruction and skills development. Comparisons and contrasts can serve to help you define your priorities better. Sometimes it is best to know what you do not want before asserting what you do.

Pisces (Feb 20 – Mar 20)

Some rather deep and potentially complex events are unfolding for you now. At best, you are clearing away the old and making key investments for the future. At worst, you are forceful in your approach and a turn off to others. Be willing to share the stage and the attention; cool down or be more assertive for the sake of harmony and balance. Ask questions, listen respectfully and be willing to learn or best results. Be willing to make changes and adjustments in your attitude, perspective and approach as necessary.

Mercury Retrograde in Libra presents a unique, if awkward flavour to our days now. Whether direct or retrograde, any planet, in this case Mercury, also has a more specific quality depending on its actual Sign position, in this case Libra. On the other hand, Mercury retrograde is always experienced in particularly different ways according to which Sun Sign you are. Call it cosmic chemistry. Of course, each individual is ultimately unique despite the categories of the 12 part Zodiac Mandala that corresponds to the 12 Constellations and the 12 Zodiac Signs. The circle of 12 equal portions of 30 degrees each that I am referring to is best understood as an archetype. Now, Mercury in Libra Retrograde is actually considered one of its most difficult positions. Given the lovely weather the focus will be offset. Still, you may notice minor mistakes, slip-up, omissions, and forgetfulness and so experience more minor yet annoying frustrations and perhaps disappointments. This is the time especially to keep receipts and avoid signing important contracts, or at least make diligent extra efforts to read the fine print. Especially if purchasing electronic devises. I would not say do not sign if you must, according to your general life flow. Simply be mindful of the fact that Mercury is retrograde and perceptions and communications may be somewhat blurred and confusing. With intention you can bring positivity to it. On the other hand, the deeper lessons that you may be destined to learn from this experience may also be important to your overall evolution. Since Mercury went retrograde on September 24 and will be so until October 15th, you have the opportunity to observe as you go forward in your life looking back to what important events and relationships or purchases you made during this time. Adding to the Mercury retrograde issues, the Moon making challenging aspects would indicate more difficult experiences, so be on the watch for those. Aries (Mar 21 – Apr 20)

Your passions and ambitions will deepen this week. You will pursue whom ever and what ever you desire with all jets firing. You will want significant others to know your feelings but may want to conceal them from people in general. In the bigger picture, you are on a march to expand your position of power and influence. Sharing the power with others or someone special is part of the plan. True power comes from source and is harnessed to empower others while false power controls or takes power from others. Strike the balance by empowering yourself and others.

Taurus (Apr 20 – May 21)

People and circumstances are pushing you to expand your position somehow. You are eager to engage yet may have a few questions to ask and details to settle before you fully move ahead. You want to be as aware as you can and also go with the flow. Striking this balance implies getting answers along the way of your general direction. A destiny is calling and it implies change for the better but you better be willing to learn a lot. Go with the flow yet get answers as well.

Gemini (May 21 – Jun 21)

A playful, creative and romantic mood continues. Yet, in order to achieve them you must also be willing to do the work and give to the situation. Returns are coming in and dreams may be coming true but to receive them you are challenged to face certain fears. What do you really want to do, have and/or achieve? Make efforts to clarify your plans, dreams, and visions. Once you are clear in your mind your body will follow. Deeper yet, access your heart’s desire then decipher what it means in your mind then get going on your journey.

Cancer (Jun 22 – Jul 22)

How can you create more beauty in your life? Sometimes beauty is visual, sometimes it is a feeling or it could also be a relationship or a life rhythm altogether? Somehow you are being called to contract in order to expand. This means simplify, downsize, streamline or something like that. Why do you do what you do; to feel good to feel secure or to impress yourself and others? Whatever your answer, it is probably fine as long as you are O.K. with it. Aim to harmonize within to be extra in tune with yourself first and foremost! This will allow you to be more aware and help you to make better choices at this important juncture.

Leo (Jul 23 – Aug 23)

With many people to see and places to go, errands to run and thoughts to think you are probably quite busy these days. Some rather deep changes are brewing both at home and in your relationships. This is a good time to listen well and keep an open mind. You may also want to get to the bottom of things and clear away old negative emotions and invest your energies into nurturing a more embracing attitude. Mars in Scorpio could pose some deep and important life experiences and lessons; especially psychological and spiritual in nature. Keep an open mind and consider every person both your teacher and your student to foster more authentic communications.

Virgo (Aug 24 – Sep 22)

Creating a stable, balanced, beautiful and yet flexible foundation in your life will require some creative thinking and intention. Changes on relationship fronts are brewing. Some good things are flowing in, yet instability and disturbances in the field are present to keep you from becoming too complacent. Embrace the changes in a consistent manner with room for sampling and flirting with possibilities. Make efforts to prioritize so you know what you want and can exercise a sharper focus. Recognize the foundation you have built and stand with confidence upon it.

Libra (Sep 23 – Oct 22)

Moving ahead, asserting your ambitions and actualizing the object(s) of your desires are your top priority now. As old notions, self-concepts and attitudes about security steadily dissolve, you feel the urge to try new things. This is a good time to get clear and focus upon both who you are and what you want to achieve. Trust the flow of change and honour your individuality and desires to experiment. Be careful, however, not to take on more than you are actually able or willing to match in terms of effort. If you choose to go big, be prepared to double your efforts.

Scorpio (Oct 23 – Nov 21)

Freedom from the oppressive obsession of desires is the message the Buddha aimed to teach. Desire is not the enemy, attachment and obsession are. Can you enjoy the game without having to win? To explore and entertain new options, deals and prospects in the moment, beyond the outcome, yet still keeping your eye on the ball and wanting to hit it because that is the way the game is played, equals true success! In other words, be grateful for the opportunity to be a part of the game and the drama at all. With gratitude there will come greater understanding acceptance and compassion for yourself and others.

Sagittarius (Nov 22 – Dec 21)

Many grand dreams and perhaps a few schemes are floating in your mind. You want to feel secure and yet must fight against the hallucinations of your imagination to do so. Some sobering realities are assisting you to keep both feet on the ground. Some say all things are possible and they may be right; however, sometimes it is best to stick with what is probable. Capricorn (Dec 22 – Jan 19)

Your power and influence is riding high now. You want to use your leadership and authority to change or at least shake the status quo. Some big changes in your public life and in your entire mode of personal self-expression are coming in now. Expand your position with new knowledge and perspectives. Pisces (Feb 20 – Mar 20)

Deepening’s and endings on relationship fronts continue. You want to share ideas and resources with almost anyone who will engage. Whether you are aware of it or not you are in the midst of a deep soul searching, or at least a quest for new angles. Rewards for your efforts are coming but you will have to be disciplined and committed to receive them. This may well require a concerted effort over the course of the next year especially. This will provide an important momentum and confidence that will prove valuable over the course of the next few years that follow after that. As for now, push for what you want without pushing people away.

Tip of the week:

Since the fall season got going last week some brow raising planetary activity has occurred that could well produce some extra stress and drama over the next few weeks. Venus entered Scorpio on the 23rd at 7:59 pm PDT, a challenging sign for Venus generally. Mars is currently in Libra which is one of its most challenging sign positions. Adding to the list, Mercury turned retrograde on the 24th at 12:17 am. Mercury and Venus are the planets closest to the Sun and are inside the Earth’s orbit and Mars is the closest planet to Earth outside of its orbit. Along with the Sun and Moon, these are called the ‘personal’ planets in Astrology and are symbolically linked to personal character traits and behaviours. Mercury is symbolic of perceptions, interpretations and communications. Venus is symbolic of desires, pleasures and priorities. Mars is symbolic of initiative, action and assertion. Consider for a moment the importance of these 9 basic functions of human behaviour. Due to the current stage of Mercury and Venus’ respective cycles, people are likely to feel even more challenged than usual to maintain a satisfactory state of harmony and balance of their mind and emotions? Fortunately, the Sun in Libra will promote diplomatic exchanges. That Venus is in Scorpio, ruled by Mars and Mars is in Libra, ruled by Venus – each planet is in the other’s ruling sign creating a mutual reception, which fortunately is also a helpful influence. However, Mercury is retrograde lending to miscommunications and misperceptions of all kinds and Mars will enter Scorpio on October 3rd at 9:39 pm ending the mutual reception with Venus. Although Mars is considered to be in honour when in Scorpio, its reputation here is deep and pointed assertive action that could be interpreted as aggressive and even ruthless. As the last aspect of the Moon before Venus enters Scorpio is a square to Neptune, perceptions could quickly and easily get warped and confused over the next couple of weeks especially potentially leading to Scorpionic considerations and retaliations – a take no prisoners ninja like vendetta. Venus and Mars will remain in Scorpio together for about 3 weeks when on October 18th Venus enters Sagittarius. With Mercury having turned direct again on the 15th ending its 3 week retrograde cycle, it is easy to see that this next 3 week period stands out. The personal planets do not generally indicate major social events but they do have a larger impact on every day interactions of ego personalities contributing to larger events and realities. So, the next few weeks could prove particularly stressful and dramatic.

Aries (Mar 21 – Apr 20)

The notion and prospect of relationship will take a definite turn this week. One way or another, things are deepening. You may get really hot and heavy or perhaps you will get right down to ending the engagement. Some confusion and potential arguments could arise over the matter. With Mercury now retrograde, a clear resolution may take time and produce unexpected results. Review all correspondences to ensure that your communications are clear. You can’t please all the people all the time but you can know what you think, feel and say.

Taurus (Apr 20 – May 21)

Intimate relationships are the big theme for many people these days. This is both an expansive and deepening time for you. Your sights are set on the long term and all being well you are determined to learn every step of the way. There is a saying that we don’t actually ‘have’ relationships, rather we ‘create’ them. This implies every day attention. The next 4-5 weeks are not great for signing important documents, however. Create those more enduring and legal bonds…later like in November perhaps. Otherwise, read the fine print twice!

Gemini (May 21 – Jun 21)

What or more likely who is gaining your attention these days? Is there someone special in your life or is this a cycle of deepening with your significant other(s)? Perhaps it is a place or an occupation that has you all excited. You are in an adventurous mood, but it does require that you acknowledge and overcome fears of change or ending. Embrace the spirit and give to situations with heart and passion. Directing this intention towards investments and other financial interests may well prove to yield positive returns. Yes, with Mercury retrograde, avoid lofty notions and take a take a sober approach.

Cancer (Jun 22 – Jul 22)

Your world is expanding and shaking all at the same time. It seems you are learning new things every day and the pace is quick now. Disruptions of some kind are likely close to home. All being well you are making renovations to create more beauty and stability. Family gatherings and close encounters, especially with parents or other such figures are probable. With Mercury retrograde and amidst people and situations that are bound to stir memories and emotions, expect the unexpected! Be willing to listen well, to the words and the deeper meaning, in a spirit of fairness.

Leo (Jul 23 – Aug 23)

Increasing the quality and scope of your network continues. Innovations, technology and new knowledge figure prominently as well. You feel energetic and enthusiastic to go places and meet people. Many changes are brewing on both inner and outer levels and you are more and more aware of who you are, what you can do and where you are headed. Be open to a variety of angles and approaches. Be willing to push through and beyond outer blocks and resistances. Yet, also be willing to all sides before making final decisions.

Virgo (Aug 24 – Sep 22)

Building and consolidating your overall base continues. You feel ambitious and are in the mood to take some calculated risks. This may well be a very dynamic time for you as long as you have a good clear sense of your direction. Be open to change and also to unusual and or unique people and situations. They are meant to stretch you and make you more flexible. Still, aim for self-reliance. This balance between being open and independent is attainable but will require some concentration. Healing your ego personality is part of the plot. Embracing change in your lifestyle is a golden key in this process. Realizing healing requires being aware that there is some aspect of you that needs healing, otherwise understood as creating a new and better quality of balance.

Scorpio (Oct 23 – Nov 21)

You may feel the urge to rest and retreat now. You want to feel the freedom to entertain new possibilities. To this end you need time and space to contemplate. You may feel confused about who you are and what you truly want. It is probably best to accept and trust that your feelings are valid. The lord works in mysterious ways and sometimes it is best to be still, to watch, listen and receive new inspirations and guidance. This requires a state of passive receptivity – a tricky balance. The key is to ask questions and then to trust that answers will come, perhaps in dreams and synchronicities.

Aquarius (Jan 20 – Feb 19)

The pace has been busy and you have had to cover a lot of ground. You may feel ready to take some rest. You will feel more assertive as this week progresses. You have been somewhat resistant to new directions that beckon but this will change. Your desires and appetites are steadily rising. It’s all you can do to maintain control. You both want to and do not want to. Which side will win? Sometimes giving in to urges is the right thing to do and sometimes patience is required. Your call! Of course, the consequences will also be yours to answer. Sometimes life calls and we answer and at others we make the call and life answers. Breaking negative patterns comes from consciously breaking the habitual rhythm. If you feel the need to do that this is a good time.

Scorpio (Oct 23 – Nov 21)

You have been happy to keep your cool up to now. You feel independent and even aloof these days. This will actually deepen before you discover why. New attractions will soon catch your eye. September is shaping up to be very eventful and memorable. Many would like to forget about 9/11 in New York now experiencing its 7th anniversary. Some would like many to forget about it, while others simply cannot and will not get it out of their minds.  A terrible act of terrorism or a sinister act of grand deception, these summarize the major questions that linger in the air long after the event, like pulverized cement dust. Tragic anniversaries aside, Jupiter is now Direct as of September 7th after 4 months of retrograde in the sign of Capricorn. This synchronized with the major economic slump this summer. The ripples and repercussions continue to be causing stress and confusion. When real estate prices rise as high as they did and then fall to as low again and lower in the course of a year, people begin to wonder why; they wake-up and begin asking questions. Anyway, just hours before Jupiter turned retrograde it formed a 90 degree square aspect to Mars in Libra. This aspect occurs about every 2 years. However, the whole planetary picture must always be taken into account. No two squares or any aspect are quite the same. With Jupiter in Capricorn, its sign of detriment and Mars in Libra where it is in its fall, the negative charge is increased. The better news includes Saturn forming a close trine aspect to Jupiter and Mercury in conjunction with Venus and Uranus and Neptune holding strong in a mutual reception - where each planet is in the other’s sign. This all suggests that while aggressions and ambitions are stampeding to meet the economic demand, creative ingenuity has been activated and necessity is giving birth to intuition, innovation and new skills and realizations. The big bright star in the sky to the south is Jupiter in the constellation of Sagittarius and the sign of Capricorn. Yes, this discrepancy can be made. To assume that Astrology is purely based on the exact position of the constellations is just that, assumption. Looking to both the constellation and the sign may seem strange but it is as simple as understanding that the ‘sign’ is based on the season and the constellation is more variable in this regard. Of course, given the unseasonably cool temperatures, we might wonder if the seasons are changing. The late winter earlier this year squeezes that argument out. Cultivating more creative and passionate relationships is a central theme now. To this end you are willing to investigate the possibilities. This could prove very good for your love life, if disruptive somehow. You are prepared to make some diligent efforts. Aim to take a cooperative approach to share the wealth as well as your passions and your love! The key is to genuinely come from the heart. While your lower chakras may be active, if you yield to them at the expense of feeling and acting with love, your experiences and the consequences of them will prove less than fulfilling. Center your attention on your heart beyond the imaginings of your mind and the desires of your loins and you will have it all!

The Total Solar Eclipse that occurred on August 1st and the partial Lunar Eclipse on August 16th are now fully in effect. Eclipses create a wave of energy that brings change, in association with the actual planetary picture as illustrated in an Astrology Chart. This change is especially strong for those people whose Natal planets, or the position of the planets at the exact moment of one’s first breath at birth, are activated. This occurs when the degree of the eclipse is the same as, or within 2-3 degrees of, one’s natal planetary positions. The mid points between two natal planets are also sensitive points and if they are at the same or close to the degree of the eclipses the planets and signs involved will be noticeably influenced. Beyond these ‘exact aspects’ or ‘hits’ as they are colloquially referred to among Astrologers, the actual Zodiac Sign and especially the Astrological House where the eclipse occurs will be influenced. This is why predictive Astrologers especially pay such close attention to Solar and Lunar Eclipses. The Solar eclipse took place at 9 degrees Leo 32 minutes in the Tropical Zodiac and the Lunar Eclipse was at 24 degrees Aquarius 17. The Solar and Lunar Eclipses that occur in pairs like this one are always a part of the same Saros Cycle, which is too long to explain here. The following quote from Bernadette Brady’s, “The Eagle and the Lark” a predictive Astrology book by a celebrated Astrologer from Australia offers the following general interpretation: “ This Saros Cycle concerns itself with breaking out of a negative situation where no hope can be seen to a more positive space containing many options. A worry that may have been affecting a person will suddenly clear. The solution is shown by the Cosmos and needs to be taken up without too much delay”. Use this interpretation for whatever insight you can get from it according to your own life situation. It is not meant to be literal in the strict sense of the term because every person and Astrology chart is unique and must be interpreted according to each person, city or country and their actual situation. This includes the subtle reality of the natal planets that might be aspected and the Signs and Houses where the eclipses occur. Since the active and energetic influence of a Solar Eclipse continues for about six months or until the next Solar Eclipse, there is plenty of time to make this one a closer study in your own life. Taurus (Apr 20 – May 21)

Creative efforts to bring more beauty into your life are your focus now. Refinements of one kind or another are on your mind. You may want to make the most with the least. Your goal is to combine good economy with high efficiency. Keep an open mind about how to strike this balance. Define wealth as the ability to yield a lot from minimum input. This is good science and good sense however you apply it. Meet the changing economic times with ambition and determination. Take the road less travelled by emulating the thoughts and actions of pioneers.

Gemini (May 21 – Jun 21)

Bringing order to your home is likely now. This is a good time to clear the clutter. This focus may be turned towards body organ cleanses. Repairs long overdue are also possible. Invest your energy and focus to clear the old to make way for the new and realize greater confidence. With a clean slate and base of operations, you will achieve more. Investigate and research to gain knowledge and overcome fears generated by a passive approach. Put your imagination to work for you by generating many ideas about generating income and making investments.

Cancer (Jun 22 – Jul 22)

Increasing the breadth, scope and quality of your communications is important now. You want to cover a lot of ground quickly. This may include a lot of errands and even some travel. You want to make the best use of your time and energy and this may include some investments. With four planets in Virgo now, cleaning, clearing and getting organized for the sake of practical interest and focus is a current theme for us all. Cancer (Jun 22 – Jul 22)

Who are you and what do you feel you truly want and need? The best way to answer this question is to be honest with your self. Consider that everyone is responsible for their own feelings and emotions and we each must be true to our own. Yes, this does produce drama but will require discipline, effort and commitment. The determination to commit will become apparent very soon. The biggest issue to overcome is to know your direction. If so, clear the clutter both in your environment and in your mind. Leo (Jul 23 – Aug 23)

Creating a more beautiful life with love and respect for all your relationships continues. You also have the right to request the same in return.
