Develop and strengthen core recording, editing and mixing skills on Avid ProTools. Learn correct and efficient approaches to digital music production. Increase confidence and self-sufficiency. Gain a working knowledge of MIDI-controllable Virtual Instruments.

The course will accommodate Beginner and Intermediate users. It is ideal for those who have purchased, or are considering the purchase of digital recording software. One-on-one production guidance will be available throughout the course.

Cost is $400 + HST. Register with Selkirk Continuing Ed at 352-6601.

Prenatal Yoga Teacher Training

Join Anna Colin and Trisha Wilson for a prenatal training in beautiful Nelson BC. This four day training will be the first of two parts in our Yoga Alliance recognized prenatal training. This course will give current yoga teachers a well rounded training on how to safely and effectively guide prenatal women. It will provide professionals working with pregnant women such as doulas, midwives, doctors and other health practitioners effective tools to use in a holistic approach to care with regard to yoga, movement and breathing. Each session is $425 plus HST or $800 for both plus HST

Ali & Johnny at Touchstones Nelson

French-American-Canadian duo Ali & Johnny bring their extensive classical training to the Kootenays for a concert at Touchstones Nelson. The duo takes music they love and creates new arrangements for their own instruments, clarinet and violin. The unique program will blend duos from the classical repertoire spanning four centuries with folk tunes from Hungary, Spain, Sweden and Canada.

Violinist Ali Luthmers and clarinetist Johnny Teyssier graduated from the Colburn School of Music in LA in 2011. Their careers will soon be taking them to Sweden, where Johnny will play with the Malmö Symphony Orchestra. They are thrilled to be spending time in the Kootenays with Ali’s family, longtime residents of Nelson.

Admission is by donation.

Selkirk Fine Woodworking Exhibition

Have you ever seen a jelly-bean table? Well you can this year at Selkirk College’s Fine Woodworking program’s annual year-end show. Come see a wide range of innovative tables and cabinets produced by the 2012 graduates of this nine-month, nationally-recognized program. The show runs from May 25th to the 27th at the Trading Company in downtown Nelson. The show opens Friday at 9 am with an evening reception Friday night from 6 to 9 pm, and continues Saturday from 9 am to 6pm, again Sunday from 9 am to 4 pm.
