Dear Community and Friends,
We would like to extend a heartfelt invitation to another series of Death Cafes at the Kalein Centre in Nelson. Kalein has hosted cafes since 2013, and is part of an Int’l movement of over 5000 registered cafes in 51 countries, that started in 2011.
As the founder saw it, “Western society has long outsourced discussions about death to doctors, nurses, priests and undertakers. The result is that we have lost control of one of the most significant events we ever have to face.” http://deathcafe.com/
Our intention is to gather in a supportive and respectful space, to dialogue around the many dimensions of what death is for us, and to explore the impact  death has on our living.  This exploration is sensitively led, with the invitation to show up for the full range of emotions, beliefs, thoughts, questions and experiences around life and death. In the spirit that we are all each other’s students and teachers, we will be interested more in the questions than the answers. Music, poetry, writing, and other modalities will support our work together.
In the words of Frank Ostaseski, who will be hosting and facilitating Kalein’s Fall Liminal Lab event….“We hope to discover what death can teach us about living fully. “

With Gratitude, as your Death Café Facilitators,
Maureen Jansma – With a background in the healing arts, my life experiences have taught me to listen a little more, assume less, and continue to open my instincts, mind and heart.  I am so grateful to be alive, always learning.
Lori Simpson – I am a registered nurse in the field of mental health.
I am looking forward to showing up and exploring with others what it means to live fully through this life and death journey.
