Session 1

Feb. 15, 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM

Smart Communities: A Primer on how BC communities can leverage the Smart Revolution

Highlighting ‘Smart’ strategies which medium-to-small communities use for success in the new (digital) economy, this presentation will feature Purdue Professor Roberto Gallardo and ICF’s Executive Director, Robert Bell, who will be joined by panelists from across British Columbia, including Andrea Wilkey, Executive Director of Community Futures Central Kootenay, Brenda Andersson, CFO of the Village of Granisle, Emilie de Rosenroll, CEO South Island Prosperity, Greater Victoria, and Mitch Thomson, Executive Director of Olds Institute for Community and Regional Development. John G. Jung, ICF’s Chairman and Co-Founder and Susan Stanford, Executive Lead, Ministry of Citizens’ Services, Victoria, BC will co-moderate the session.

Learn from industry experts what B.C. communities, including rural and remote communities, need to consider when starting on their journey to benefit from the Digital Economy and become a Smart Community in B.C.  Learn from global case studies and hear from British Columbia community leaders on what they did to become recognized as smart and Intelligent Communities.

This session is intended for those interested in understanding the Smart Cities concept and potential through a small town and rural community lens.

Session 2

Feb. 15, 1:00 PM – 2:30 PM

How B.C. Communities can get involved in the Smart Cities Challenge

This session will focus on the Infrastructure Canada Smart Cities Challenge Program.  Hear from Gerard Peets, Executive Director, Infrastructure Canada, on the goals and process of the Challenge and from panelists from across British Columbia and other parts of Canada who will highlight their experiences in their communities behind a unique idea, discuss examples of strategic partnerships, and opportunities for First Nations in the Challenge. Audience members will be invited to ask questions of the panelists and Infrastructure Canada participants.

This webinar is intended for BC municipalities and groups who want to understand if their community can benefit, or want to increase the potential of submissions already underway. This is similar to a webinar ICF hosted on January 10th, that was over-subscribed.
