NPD 18-4425:

On 18/09/03 at approximately 1034 hours, a member of the Nelson Police Department was parked in the area of Elwyn Street and Nelson Avenue when the member observed a collision involving a motor vehicle and a cyclist.  The cyclist, who had the right of way, was struck by the motor vehicle and was thrown from their bicycle landing in the middle of the roadway.  The cyclist was attended to by emergency personnel and was determined to have suffered minor injuries which would have been more severe if the cyclist had not been wearing a bike helmet.  The motorist was issued a violation ticket under the Motor Vehicle Act for Failing to Yield After Stop.

The Nelson Police Department would like to take this opportunity to remind cyclists to ensure they are wearing protective equipment when cycling and to remind motorists to ensure they are aware of their surroundings at all times.

NPD 18-4429:

On 18/09/03 at approximately 1713 hours, the Nelson Police Department observed a disturbance in the 300 block of Victoria Street.  Members noted a male assaulting a female and upon police arrival, the male was taken into custody.  Police determined that the male assaulted the female with a weapon, had assaulted two other males that attempted to assist the female, uttered threats, and was breaching previous court orders.  The male is facing numerous charges and is being held in custody for court later this week.
