Playing at the Civic Theatre 17 – 23 May, 2019.

Back to the usual wild mix of content this week at the Civic – read on..

We found the ‘Missing Link’ to The Civic’s diverse programming again.

After the long haul of a single title, we are back in old form with a platter of five titles to tickle your fancy this week at The Civic.  Kicking it off, we have a family friendly offering from the good people at Laika Studios, who brought us the innovative stop animation films, ‘Boxtrolls’ and ‘Kubo and the Two Strings’.  ‘Missing Link’, plays on the split with the crowd pleasing rom-com about the Trump era, ‘Long Shot’, which stars the unlikely pairing of Charlize Theron and Seth Rogen.

India finds a home on the Civic screen this week, with a screening of the recent hit film ‘Lucifer’ from Kerala, co-presented by the Malayali community, and the Dev Patel vehicle, ‘Hotel Mumbai’ about the real events that took place in 2008.

Following BC Youth Week and an excellent Super 8 Film youth workshop, we are proud to present a screening highlighting some films made by Nelson youth over this past year along with the hand processed Super 8 films from the workshop.

Coming next: a musical experience between the doc Arethra Franklin in ‘Amazing Grace’ and the unique Greenwich Village guitar shop, ‘Carmine Street Guitars’, and the colourful personas who work and patron there. ‘Detective Pikachu’ and ‘Us’ round out the TBC week ahead.

“24 hours.

That’s all the time eight local teenagers had to shoot, direct, produce, score and edit a film. That’d be a challenge for any filmmaker.

But these students did it all on Super 8. They even developed the film by hand…”
