Nelson, BC – February 16, 2017 | The Civic Theatre is pleased to announce our 2017 Annual Oscar Party: One Night in La La Land, taking place on February 25th at 7:30pm. Guests will be welcomed into a nostalgic jazz era-inspired party for an evening of live entertainment, sumptuous catering courtesy of the Kootenay Co-op and sweet treats at the Save On Foods candy bar, followed by a late screening of the Oscar-nominated film La La Land.
Live artists featured at this event include Greg Walter, Front Street Dancers, Lola Lane, Discover Circus and The New Gramophones. One Night in La La Land will also feature a cash bar, carefully-crafted silent auction, and games of chance during our party, helping to offset expenses, and with net event proceeds going towards our community outreach efforts in the coming year.
Drawing from a life time of performing music (5000+ engagements), Greg Walter performs a mix of jazz, blues, pop, and rock. Having played piano and singing since age 2 and and trained in Classical Music Theory at an early age, he has developed an understanding of various music styles. Greg has performed with such legends as Bo Diddly, Cash McCall, and Billy Branch. He has opened for New Riders of the Purple Sage, The Flying Burrito Brothers, Savoy Brown, Rod Stewart and The Faces, Living Color, and others.

Discover Circus is a local social enterprise offering training and community to those who wish to explore the circus arts. It was created using the not for profit framework by a group of local artists and performers that value artistic expression, cooperation, inclusiveness, and play. We wish to share the benefits, both for body and mind, that pursuing the circus arts at any level can provide.
Lola Lane is the nerdy mermaid love child of Aquaman and Lois Lane, a burlesque performer with a strong background in musical theatre. She moved to beautiful Nelson BC from the nation’s capital four years ago, and has grown so much as a performer here in the Kootenays. 2016 was The Year of no Corset for Lola, she challenged herself to approach her body in a more loving way. She feels it’s her mission to inspire other women to be positive about their bodies by showing no shame in her own. Her goal for 2017 is to spread that love!
