Hitting on all points, from Documentary/Music, Art House Western, Hollywood Horror, Indi-Psychedelic, Historical biography Drama and Sport/Adventure, we are putting our single-screen to full use this week at The Civic.Based on Canadian author Patrick DeWitt’s book, this 85% Fresh comedy western did a hell of fabulous job casting John C. Reilly and Joaquin Phoenix as The Sisters Brothers.   Jaime Lee Curtis is a force to be reckoned with in Halloween (2018), which directly follows up from Carpenter’s original from 40-years ago. And from Panos Cosmatos of Victoria, BC, comes the sublime nightmarish psychedelic art house horror film, Mandy, 92% fresh. The film that premiered at Sundance, stars a Nicholas Cage back to form of his intense early period – perfect for a big screen experience for the adventurous. Carrying forward the ‘M’s’, Matangi/Maya/MIA88% fresh, is the amazing documentary of the Sri Lankan artist/musician that grew up in civil war, became a refugee in the UK and became an international rap/pop icon. And for our Thursday audience, the period drama Colette, tells the true story of Sidonie-Gabrielle Colette, who wrote a sensational book ghostwriting for her husband, and had to upend social conventions in a fight over creative ownership.

And as pepper on this rich meal already served up by The Civic, a community presentation of the latest film from Matchstick Productions, Hoji, will get you ready for the big pow to come.
