All Civic Candidates Reverse Forum on Social Issues

NELSON, BC. Social issues will be in the spotlight on Wednesday, November 5, 2014 at the Best Western (153 Baker St) at 7:00 p.m. when the Social Planning Action Network Society (SPAN) will host an All-Candidates “Reverse” Forum.

The “reverse forum” will give the public the chance to speak while candidates listen on key topics such as housing, seniors’ services, health care access, mental health, poverty, and child care. After introductions and brief remarks, each candidate will spend 15 minutes in each of three sessions listening to citizens’ concerns on a given topic. Finally, the candidates will have an opportunity share their vision for change and commitment.

Rona Park, Chair of SPAN, will moderate the event. “This forum is intended to ensure that whoever is elected will be fully informed of the issues facing our community,” she said. “We are looking forward to hearing citizen concerns and the candidates’ responses. We hope to make social issues a key election issue.’
