Nelson Safe Water & Boating Event

Just an update on how things are proceeding for our upcoming Nelson Safe Boating Event to be held at Lakeside Park on May 25 from 10 am to 2 pm. This is a free community, family-friendly, event.
This event is being held in support of the National Safe Boating Campaign which runs throughout North America during the 3rd week of May each year.
I am very excited about the support and enthusiasm we are receiving for the event and I do hope to see you there.

The Nelson Safe Boating Event will be held on May 25 at Lakeside Park. Sail Nelson has received confirmation from many industry partners who will attend the event including:

  • Kootenay Emergency Response Physicians Association (KERPA)

  • Canadian Safe Boating Council

Key messages for the public will include:

  • Wear a PFD or Lifejacket
  • Don’t Drink & Boat
  • Take a Boating Course
  • Be Prepared, Both You and Your Vessel
  • Be Wary of the Dangers of Cold Water Immersion

The first annual Nelson Safe Boating event is hosted by Sail Nelson the Kootenay’s own Sail Canada accredited sailing school.  Sail Nelson’s founder, owner, and lead Sailing Instructor, Penny Caldwell, saw an opportunity for an event like this and gathered her team to make it happen.  Through strong support from Nelson Search and Rescue, local first responder agencies, local governments, retailers, suppliers, and many others, Sail Nelson is proud to present the first annual Nelson Safe Boating event.
