Clint Mule(s) drugs over the border in Bumblebee + Free Solo, Burning and Golden Globe winning, The Wife

Newsletter January 11 – 17
What’s in the trunk Clint?Maybe a teensy-weensy bit of drugs, as I’m a Mule for the Mexican cartel, but there’s also a lot of good films in here somewhere. Let me see…

The Mule, starring and directed by Clint Eastwood, recounts the story of a 90-year-old Korean war vet who was caught transporting 3 million dollars worth of Cocaine into the U.S.  Maybe if he had been rolling in Bumblebee, playing on the split, he would have avoided capture. This new, old VW version of Bumblebee set in ’87, has Travis Knight, Kubo and the Two Strings, at the helm and has a surprising 93% Certified Fresh rating.

And in the bag beside the tire iron, we have some climbing rope that Alex Honnold won’t be using in an encore screening of his Free Solo climb of El Capitan on Monday.  In the duffel bag to the left is a little something I picked up in Korea.  Burning, is a Palme D’or nominated mysterious picture based on Haruki Murakami’s short story ‘Barn Burning’ from a master auteur of Korean cinema, Chang-dong Lee.  And The Wife is also in here somewhere in a bag marked Thursday night.  I think you’ll find her best actress Golden Globe next to some bricks of cocaine.

For more details on the individual films see below.

Development Update

We rang in the New Year by celebrating an incredibly successful operational fundraising campaign.  In the last few weeks you helped The Civic Theatre raise over $14,000. Your donations will help us bridge the gap as we prepare for our exciting capital renovation, transforming the theatre into a multiscreen venue.

We secured an important milestone in our journey towards this capital renovation on Monday night, when the city approved a $1 million line of credit towards the project.  Although our hope is not to rely on this line of credit specifically, it does provide us the financial leverage necessary to apply for grants securing additional funding for our renovation.  Read more about this line of credit here.

2019 will be an exciting and transformative year for us, as we continue raising funds towards our $25,000 operational goal, and launch our capital campaign.  We look forward to keeping you updated on our progress.

Thank you for your support. Thank you for partnering with us and believing in this collective vision for our theatre. It is this community that makes it possible to do what we do.
