Tutti a Tavola a Mangiare! The Nelson Italian-Canadian Society returns with a Spaghetti Sauce Fundraiser
Fall is traditionally the time of year when people start stocking their pantries by canning and preserving the bounty from their gardens.
And for many Italian Kootenay homes, that fall tradition involves making their own homemade tomato sauce. This coveted tomato sauce is used as the base for making traditional Italian spaghetti sauce and is used on a variety of pastas, which is often the centrepiece of their meals.
So this year, after the great success of organizing their first-ever Italian sausage fundraiser, the Nelson Italian-Canadian Society has decided to fundraise again and step back into the kitchen to cook up two types of traditional homemade spaghetti sauce.
They will be making Traditional Meat-Based Spaghetti Sauce and Vegetarian Spaghetti Sauce.
The homemade sauce will be made from an authentic recipe that uses canned crushed tomatoes, tomato sauce, tomato paste, onions, garlic, olive oil, wine, salt, pepper, fresh and dried herbs.
The spaghetti sauce will be sold in 1-litre plastic containers for $12.00 each. All proceeds go to support charitable initiatives in Nelson.
No preservatives, no gluten, no dairy. Just really good food.
“The Society volunteers were humbled by the overwhelming support for our successful Italian Sausage fundraiser. And when the idea was suggested that we could fundraise again and get back into the kitchen to make spaghetti sauce, there was no hesitation” says NICS President Paul Boscariol. “Fundraising with food has been a long-standing tradition for the Society and we’re happy to be able to continue to contribute to charitable causes in the community.”
