Nelson Police officers had a busy weekend with 73 calls for service in 72 hours. Files of
note include:
On Saturday morning officers were alerted to a possible impaired driver in the 1000 blk
of Lakeside Drive. The driver was located and found to be prohibited from driving in
British Columbia. He was issued an appearance notice for a later court date.
On Saturday evening officers were called to the intersection of Stanley St and Baker St
for a pedestrian struck by a vehicle. The driver remained on scene and cooperated with
members. The pedestrian was transported to hospital with non-life threatening injuries
and the driver was issued a violation ticket for failing to yield to pedestrian.
Late Saturday evening a suspicious driver caught the attention of a member as the driver
was signaling left on two occasions but continued to travel straight. Once stopped, the
officer suspected the driver may be impaired. The driver provided two breath samples
into a road-side screening device registering fail readings. The driver was issued a 90 day
Immediate Driving Prohibition and the vehicle was impounded for 30 days.
Less that two hours later officers noted a vehicle travelling without its headlights on. The
driver claimed that to be the “ Designated Driver “ for the evening but the officer noted
signs of impairment. The driver provided a breath sample which registered fail on the
road-side screening device. The driver was issued a 90 Day Immediate Driving
Prohibition and the vehicle was impounded for 30 days.
On Sunday evening Nelson Police were called to an assault at a local bar. A female was
arrested and released a few hours later with a future court appearance. Not long after,
police were called to the 1500 blk of Lakeside Drive in Nelson for a mischief in progress
with the same female that had just been released. The female had smashed the glass
windows at the mall entrance and she was again arrested. As the morning continued
Nelson Police were called to two other incidents where windows to businesses were
smashed. Police continue to investigate the events and it’s anticipated that numerous
charges will be forwarded to Crown Counsel.
