SUBJECT: Canada Day long weekend
Nelson Police officers responded to sixty calls for service over the long weekend.
Canada Day festivities in Lakeside Park were well attended and people were having a
great time. Members conducted sporadic patrols of the park and dealt with a couple of
intoxicated individuals but none were arrested.
On Saturday afternoon officers were called to Lakeside Drive and Hall Street for a
woman screaming. The “ woman “ ended up being a male causing a disturbance. A check
of the male showed he had several outstanding warrants. The male was arrested and is
being held pending a court appearance.
On Saturday evening police were called to the ATM area of a local bank. A shirtless male
in the ATM was found to have outstanding warrants. He was arrested and released the
following day after appearing before a Judge.
Saturday night was the night for some long weekend revelers to make poor decisions. In
two hours officers handed out four 90 day Immediate Driving Prohibitions with 30 day
vehicle impoundments to drivers in the City. Officers continued through the night dealing
with open liquor and another driver who was issued a 24 Hour Driving Prohibition.
