The first of two consecutive New Moons in Virgo occurs today, or August 22/23, the date depending on your time zone. Of initial significance is the fact that both lunation cycles(New Moons) will occur at the critical (Anaretic) degrees of 0 and 29 of Virgo. Since there are 30 degrees in a sign and since there are 29.5 days from one New Moon to the next, this event is not entirely rare. Yet, it is still significant enough and worthy of mention and attention. The basic fact is that both lunations are anchored in Virgo, the sign of analysis and critical thinking.
Since Mercury rules Virgo, it will play a special role.
For this first lunation cycle, Mercury is in Leo. While Mercury is often challenged in Leo, it is well-aspected, supporting original thoughts and breakthroughs in perception of what is deemed ‘reality’. Generally, as a whole, the New Moon chart reveals an edgy, rebellious, or revolutionary tone and can also be deemed to be both deep, dynamic and mysterious and factual, skeptical and sobering all at the same time!
As is always true of the New Moon, where it lands in your own Birth Chart, or even the ‘solar chart’ used for Horoscopes, is the first consideration regarding its destined influence, and will be a central focus for this week’s Horoscopes.

Aries (Mar 21 – Apr 20)
Fresh waves of creative thoughts and ideas inspired by and the source of critical analysis, is a central theme inspired by this New Moon. Positively, your confidence levels will be running high. However, some of your perspectives may seem radical and edgy or too lofty for realistic expression and integration. Still, enjoy the stretch of possibility thinking.
Taurus (Apr 20 – May 21)
The creative potential for this lunation cycle is strong. Yet, it remains that to harness it for its full potential, awareness and intention is the key. You might have to make extra efforts to break free from the comfort zone of your habitual perspectives. The other challenge is to know what you truly need and not simply want, and then to zero-in.
Gemini (May 21 – Jun 21)
Changes close to home, probably in the way of improvements, are likely associated with this New Moon. Interactions with family and perhaps neighbors is part of the plot, as are financial interests and investments, and possibly concerns. Whatever happens, focus to reach cooperative win/win solutions, supported by emotional intelligence.
Cancer (Jun 21 – Jul 22)
Get ready for a busy cycle requiring a clear and strong focus on your priorities going forward. Change is in the air and can be as simple as clearing the clutter. However, the reach could go deeper as with renovations and the time, energy and investments they require. Do your research to get the best quality for the best price.
Leo (Jul 22 – Aug 23)
A careful consideration of your financial picture is likely during this cycle. Investments are featured, and they could be especially directed to your business, but perhaps also to your health and that of your lifestyle in general. Drawing upon hidden reserves of faith and trust in the flow might be required. Fortunately, your energy levels should be running higher than usual.
Virgo (Aug 23 – Sep 22)
This New Moon in your sign will activate a pioneering spirit and an ambitious determination. You will take an assertive approach to increase your outreach to get more attention and expand your influence and popularity. However, you may have to concentrate to both narrow your focus and clear the cobwebs from your mind which have possibly accumulated.
Libra (Sep 22 – Oct 22)
This powerful, double lunation cycle marks a time to step back from social activities and get busier with matters behind the scenes.
