Join the Magic from the Sky! Shambhala Music Festival is seeking Advanced Drone Pilots to be a part of our Public Safety Team for the upcoming festival season. This is an exciting opportunity to bring your drone skills to one of Canada’s most iconic electronic music festivals and help keep the Shambhala experience safe and flowing smoothly from above.
As an Advanced Drone Pilot with our Public Safety Team, you’ll play a key role in providing aerial support for on-the-ground teams, management, and dispatch. You’ll assist in situational awareness, crowd monitoring, emergency response coordination, and help us see what can’t be seen from the ground.
• This temporary position will work from July 22-29, 2025 at the festival site near Salmo, BC.
Responsibilities Include:
• Operate drones in accordance with Transport Canada’s Advanced Operations regulations.
• Provide real-time aerial support for festival security, safety, and dispatch teams.
• Utilize drones equipped with thermal imaging to assist with nighttime monitoring and search scenarios.
• Communicate effectively with dispatch, medical, security, and operations teams.
• Submit and manage Transport Canada permitting and flight authorizations as required.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications Include:
• Valid Advanced Drone Pilot Certificate (Transport Canada).
• Experience flying drones in high-traffic or large event environments.
• Proficiency with thermal imaging drones (e.g., DJI Mavic 3T, Matrice series, etc.).
• Familiarity with submitting SFOCs and coordinating flight permissions in controlled airspace.
• Strong communication skills and ability to remain calm under pressure.
• Previous festival or emergency services experience is a plus.
• Flexible and able to respond to changes in working conditions.
• Excellent organizational and communication skills.
• Strong sense of urgency and problem-solving skills.
• High attention to detail.
• Ability to think on their feet.
• Multi-task and prioritize.
• Performs well under pressure.
• Streamline processes and make recommendations to improve efficiencies.
• Works well independently and in a team setting.
• Ability to work in a culturally diverse work space without personal judgments or bias.
