• This full-time, temporary position starts ASAP until November 2026.
• Work Location: The work will be primarily at the festival site near Salmo, BC.

The General Equipment Operator is responsible for safely operating SMF machinery and equipment across the site. Duties include performing routine maintenance, keeping equipment logs up to date, and completing all required safety documentation. The Operator follows SMF and WorkSafeBC policies and Safe Work Procedures and assists with equipment-related tasks as directed by management. They communicate progress and issues to Supervisors to ensure smooth and safe operations.

Roles and Responsibilities:
• Operate all SMF machinery safely, efficiently, and in accordance with SMF and WorkSafeBC policies, including adhering to the lone working policy where applicable.
• Complete all daily safety pre-trip inspections and other required safety forms before using any equipment.
• Perform routine maintenance and promptly report equipment issues to your Supervisor through the equipment maintenance form.
• Ensure machinery is clean, fuelled, and ready for the next Operator.
• Document hours worked, signing in and out with your Supervisor.
• Attend daily tailgate meetings at the start of each shift.
• Assess work environments for hazards and risks before operating equipment.
• Identify system flaws or inefficiencies and suggest improvements.
• Report discrepancies, hazards, or potential issues immediately and assist in resolving them.
• Perform other duties as assigned by your Supervisor and only within assigned scope of work.
• Exercise the authority and responsibility to stop work if unsafe conditions are identified and immediately notify a Supervisor.
• Other labour duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
• Trained and/or certified to operate heavy machinery safely as required.
• Solid understanding of heavy-duty machine maintenance.
• Valid Class 5 license with a clean abstract; able to drive manual vehicles is a minimum requirement.
• Experience working in festivals or event environments is an asset.
• Knowledge of SMF equipment, tools, and site operations preferred.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to follow safety procedures.
• Must provide and wear CSA-approved steel-toe boots suitable for all scheduled shifts and work conditions.

• Maintain a professional demeanor while on site, on duty, or when representing SMF.
• Must wear required PPE at all times as designated by task and site conditions (e.g., steel-toe boots, high-vis, hearing protection, helmet, gloves.)
• Compliance with SMF substance and impairment policies, including being well rested before operating machinery.
• Ability to respond calmly and effectively to emergencies, including equipment malfunctions, medical incidents, or evacuations.
• Ability to lift up to 40 lb consecutively.
• Ability to climb in and out of equipment repeatedly.
• Ability to stand, walk, bend, and work long hours on uneven terrain.
• Vision and hearing sufficient to operate equipment safely and pass an aptitude test for operation of machines.

Pay Rate:
$30-35 per hour based on experience.
