Power the party from behind the scenes! Join our team as a Tech Assistant and help deploy, maintain, and troubleshoot the technology that brings the festival to life.

• This full-time, temporary position runs from April until late August 2026, and will work primarily at our head office on Baker Street in beautiful Nelson, BC.
• Festival Site Work: The successful candidates will also be required to work on-site at the festival location near Salmo, BC for about 1 month in July.

The Tech Assistant is a key operational member of the SMF Tech Department, supporting both the Tech Director and Tech Supervisor in the deployment, maintenance, and troubleshooting of all festival technology systems.

This role is hands-on and dynamic – encompassing gear preparation, cable installations, network setup, troubleshooting, and assisting with live festival support. The Tech Assistant plays an essential role in ensuring that SMF’s technical infrastructure is delivered on time, functions reliably, and is documented accurately throughout the festival lifecycle.

Roles and Responsibilities:
• Support the Tech Director and Tech Supervisor with the setup and maintenance of festival technology systems, including networks, radios, POS kits, and site connectivity.
• Prepare, clean, label, and organize tech equipment pre and post festival.
• Assist with installation of cabling, Wi-Fi access points, switches, and related gear.
• Perform troubleshooting and field repairs on IT, power, or connectivity issues as directed.
• Maintain and document field deployments (cable runs, device placements, configurations).
• Provide friendly and professional tech support to SMF staff, vendors, and contractors.
• Assist in the coordination and dispatch of the showtime tech support team.
• Monitor inventory and report missing, damaged, or low-stock items to the Tech Supervisor.
• Maintain safe and organized workspaces, toolkits, and tech transport vehicles.
• Attend daily tailgate meetings and maintain clear communication with supervisors.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Tech Director or Tech Supervisor.

Qualifications:
• Knowledge of computer hardware, networking, and event tech systems.
• Experience working with routers, switches, radios, and point-of-sale kits preferred.
• Comfort with cabling, labeling, and structured installations.
• Festival, construction or event operations experience is an asset.
• Familiarity with common software platforms and troubleshooting processes.
• Experience working in customer service is an asset.
• A valid driver’s license is required.

Pay Rate:
$19-25 per hour based on experience.
