Happy Canada Day, below is why we Celebrate.
Canada Day, celebrated on July 1st, marks the anniversary of the British North America Act (now the Constitution Act, 1867), which united three British colonies into a single country called Canada.
Confederation:
On July 1, 1867, the British colonies of Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, and the Canada province (which later became Ontario and Quebec) were joined together to form the Dominion of Canada.
British North America Act:
This act, passed by the British Parliament, established the framework for the new country and its system of government.
Dominion Day:
The anniversary of this event was initially called Dominion Day, but was officially renamed Canada Day in 1982.
Independence:
While Canada Day commemorates the beginning of self-governance, it wasn’t until 1982 that Canada gained full independence from Britain with the patriation of its Constitution.
Celebrations:
Today, Canada Day is a national holiday celebrated with parades, fireworks, concerts, and various community events. It’s a time for Canadians to reflect on their identity, celebrate their diversity, and take pride in their nation’s history and achievements.
