    -Origin:
    BC Day was officially established in 1974 to recognize the unique culture and achievements of British Columbia.
    -Significance:
    The holiday recalls the declaration of the Colony of British Columbia by the Westminster Parliament on August 2, 1858. It also acknowledges the pioneering spirit of the province and the contributions of its diverse population.

    -The British Columbia flag symbolizes the province’s British heritage and its location as Canada’s westernmost province. The Union Jack at the top represents British heritage, with the crown symbolizing the Royal Family. The setting sun below the Union Jack signifies British Columbia’s position as Canada’s westernmost province, while the wavy blue and white lines represent the Pacific Ocean and the Rocky Mountains.
