Columbia Basin Culture Tour – August 8 & 9, 2020

a project of the Columbia Kootenay Cultural Alliance

Nelson-Taking place August 8 & 9, from 10 am – 5 pm, the Columbia Basin Culture Tour allows you to explore artists’ studios,
museums, art galleries and heritage sites during this free, self-guided event. Travel to studios and archives that aren’t normally open,
see demonstrations, new exhibitions and collections or meet people behind the scenes. Venues are implementing COVID-19
protocols as per provincial guidelines. To participate in the tour, simply grab a map, your Culture Tour Directory and go!

Nelson has a thriving arts community. Visit eARTh studios where Diane Walters will be sharing her ceramics, pottery, photography
and paintings, along with visiting artist Underwood Art who will be showing bold, vibrant and textural abstract art. The Nelson &
District Chamber of Commerce has joined the tour again this year. Take a tour of their visitors centre to see a large selection of
Kootenay art and grab a coffee at Railtown. Next, stop at Kimberley Hyatt Studios, she will be displaying her lively animal drawings in
ink.

New to the tour this year is Lainey Benson, sharing acrylic paintings of stunning Canadian landscapes. Touchstones Nelson: Museum
of Art and History is a unique combination of Art Gallery, Museum and archives. Their exhibitions offer a diversity of topics and
themes that reflect the broad interests and capabilities of people living in the region.

We are excited to welcome Kootenay Co-Op Radio, also new to the tour this year! Drop in and take a tour of the facility as well as
get a glimpse of how this live community radio operates behind the scenes. Karen Guilbault’s studio will feature her acrylic mixed
media paintings, then visit Martha Stokoe for a combination of acrylic paintings of whimsical landscapes. Another new artist this
year is Briana Lyon on Six Mile Road, which is a great location to see work focused on land art, forest art, painting and the outdoors.

Tour brochures are available at tourist information centres and participating venues. Visit the website at www.cbculturetour.com to
