Selkirk College Film Camp Marks 20 Years of Youth Filmmaking
Nelson, BC — Selkirk College is celebrating 20 years of its Summer Film Camp, a unique, long-standing program that connects youth in the community through hands-on creative education.
Founded in 2007 by program graduates Amy Bohigian and Carla Sinclair, the camp has engaged hundreds of participants aged 8–18 in creating short films from start to finish, offering a professional-level experience in storytelling and production. Many alumni have gone on to pursue film studies and careers, with some returning as instructors. The program also employs students from Selkirk’s Digital Arts and Technology program each summer.
This is a great opportunity to support artistic outlets for youth in our community, at a time where many college and art programs are struggling.
There are four one-week camps running in total, outlined below.
- Film Production Camp, Ages 14-18, July 6-10
- Big Screen Dreams, Ages 11-13, July 13-17
- Big Screen Dreams, Ages 8-10, July 20-24
- Big Screen Dreams, Ages 8-13, July 27-31
