MEDIA RELEASE

            On September 19, 2019 at approximately 5:20pm Nelson Police Department received multiple 911 calls regarding a stabbing in progress at the south east corner of Baker and Stanley St. Police attended as did Nelson Fire Rescue Service, BC Ambulance Service and Dr. Nick Sparrow. Upon arrival on scene police found several citizens restraining a female suspect who had stabbed a 29 year old female at least 5 times. Police arrested the 50 year old female suspect on scene who was transported to Kootenay Lake Hospital for minor self-inflicted injuries. The female suspect was released from hospital and remains in police custody. Charges are being recommended.

The female victim sustained significant stab wound injuries to her body and arm and remains in stable condition. One of the intervening citizens also suffered minor injuries. Although the investigation is ongoing, at this time police do not believe that the victim and suspect knew each other. Police will be conducting extensive follow-up and would like to thank the public and acknowledge their bravery in assisting the victim.
