Nelson Police Officers Kept Busy Last Week

Nelson Police responded to a total of 91 calls for service last week.

On May 12, 2022 Nelson Police Department (NPD) Members responded to a report of a fight in the 500 block of Vernon St. mid day. One of the involved parties was armed with a knife but relinquished the knife prior to police arrival. Members attended and identified both parties who knew each other and were also both known to police. No injuries resulted from the altercation. A 39 year old male was arrested as a result of the incident. The male was released on conditions and to appear in court on June 21, 2022. The same male was also found to have outstanding warrants out of Trail, BC. (NPD File 22-1995 relates).

On May 13, 2022 at  3:26 PM NPD members also arrested a male who stole a painting from a local restaurant in the 300 block of Victoria St. The male was apprehended by staff and was found to also be responsible for a mischief in the area just prior to the theft. The male is known to NPD and was released with conditions and to appear in court on June 21, 2022. (NPD file 22-2008 relates).

On May 14, 2022 at 4:35 AM, NPD Members responded to a report of an alarm at a business in the 700 block of Front St. Upon arrival on scene, members discovered that the business had been broken into and items as well as cash were stolen. Police are requesting the public’s assistance from anyone who may have been in the area at the time of the event, have dash cam footage or who may have information regarding the break in.
