POLICE SEEK INFORMATION AFTER 200 LBS OF COPPER STOLEN.
On October 5, 2026, the Nelson Police Department received a report of a theft from a property. The caller reported that approximately 200 lbs. of scrap copper piping had been stolen from an unattached shed. The stolen copper is estimated to be valued at $1,000 or more.
The caller believed the theft had likely occurred over the preceding weekend. Because the incident was reported after a delay, investigative opportunities were limited. Officers searched the surrounding area, including a nearby abandoned encampment, but the stolen copper was not located.
On October 9, police received a second report from the same location after a shed was found rummaged through with its padlock smashed. Although several items had been displaced, the caller was unsure whether anything else had been stolen.
Police are investigating whether the two incidents may be connected and are asking anyone with information to come forward.
Anyone who has information about either incident is asked to contact the Nelson Police Department at 250-354-3919.
