FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: OXYGEN TO HOST SF HO DURING FALL RESIDENCY SF Ho Residency 13 November – 18 December 2024 Oxygen Art Centre is delighted to welcome SF Ho as artist-in-residence from November 13, 2024, to December 18, 2024. Ho visits the West Kootenay region from Vancouver for a four-week residency to develop a new body of work for their forthcoming exhibition, TRIPLE BURNER FLOWER FIELD, which will be on view at Oxygen Art Centre from January 15, 2025, to March 8, 2025. An origin point for this body of work is a Chinese pictograph for the word “no”, said to represent a calyx, a root, or a bird flying into the sky. Ho is interested in questioning how the Chinese image of “no” underlies the linguistic, therapeutic, and ecological frameworks that run through Ho’s visual and text-based practices. During their residency, Ho will complete artworks for their forthcoming exhibition, including ceramics, textiles, video, and scent pieces. Utilizing common plants significant to traditional Chinese medicine and the age of imperialism, this new body of work will include interviews with farmers who experienced the Hong Kong Cultural Revolution (1967) and subsequent migration and diaspora on unceded territories like Vancouver, BC. Through these mediums and historical thematic, Ho endeavours to consider dualities between emptiness and negation, separation and wholeness, and value as it is understood within the sacred and within capital. SF Ho will be in residence from November 13, 2024, to December 18, 2024, in preparation for their exhibition TRIPLE BURNER FLOWER FIELD, which will be on view at Oxygen Art Centre from January 15, 2025, to March 8, 2025. Oxygen Art Centre is an artist-run centre located at #3-320 Vernon Street along the alleyway behind Baker Street. All events are free to attend. This program is generously supported by the Canada Council for the Arts and the Regional District of Central Kootenay ReDi program. – 30 – Image Credit: SF Ho, Courtesy the Artist, 2024 Press Contact: Julia Prudhomme Executive Director Oxygen Art Centre info@oxygenartcentre.org Artist Bio: SF Ho (they/them) is an artist, writer and organizer.
