In the past two weeks, Nelsonites have experienced the first taste of winter for 2022.
And for many, the cold weather comes with the desire for comfort foods.
One of their all-time favourite comfort foods is pasta served up with a fantastic homemade
Once again this winter, the Nelson Italian-Canadian Society is back in the kitchen preparing for
its annual winter fundraiser featuring two types of traditional homemade spaghetti sauce –
Traditional Meat-Based Sauce and Vegetarian Sauce.
The homemade sauce will be made from an authentic Italian recipe that uses crushed
tomatoes, tomato sauce, onions, garlic, olive oil, wine, salt, pepper, and fresh and dried herbs.
“Not only is the sauce delicious, but I feel really good supporting such a tasty fundraiser every
year”, says satisfied customer Lindsay Clague.
The spaghetti sauce will be sold in 1-litre plastic containers for $12.50 each. All proceeds go to
support charitable initiatives in Nelson.
No preservatives, no gluten, no dairy. Just really good comfort food to help warm your body
and soul on a cold winter day.
As the Holiday season approaches so is the appetite for seasonal baked goods.
A seasonal favourite for Italians is pizzelle cookies, the traditional waffle cookies made from
flour, eggs, sugar, and butter and flavoured with anise or chocolate.
Last year the NICS had a huge success selling pizzelle for its winter fundraiser and is
doing it again this year. They come wrapped in festive cellophane packaging and cost
$10.00 for a dozen.
Three options are available: 12 anise flavoured or 12 chocolate flavoured, or a package of
6 anise and 6 chocolate-flavoured cookies.
Pre-orders for both types of spaghetti sauce and pizzelle cookies are limited. The sale runs
from Nov 13 to Nov 26, 2022.
